Brief

The primary challenge was to enhance the heating efficiency of the facility while ensuring the new system would be protected from any existing debris within the infrastructure. Additionally, the project demanded an advanced safety mechanism to monitor and control the gas supply effectively.

Project Description

To address these challenges, our team installed two Ideal Evomax 2 boilers, renowned for their high efficiency and reliability. These boilers are designed to operate with up to 99.6% full load efficiency and 110% part load efficiency, making them a perfect choice for modern heating needs.


A low-height cascade frame was chosen to support the new boilers, providing a compact and accessible
arrangement. To safeguard the boilers from potential system debris, a plate heat exchanger was installed, ensuring system segregation and longevity of the new equipment.


The safety of the system was significantly enhanced by the introduction of a Medem gas safety circuit. This comprehensive safety system included knock-off buttons, thermal links, a gas solenoid with a proving unit, and gas sensors. The Medem system is known for its patented differential pressure proving method, which meticulously checks for gas leaks and monitors gas pressure without the need to open the solenoid valve, thereby offering an additional layer of safety.

Result

The upgrade has resulted in a highly efficient and safe heating system. The new boilers have led to a reduction in energy consumption and costs, while the safety features have provided peace of mind to the facility managers. Brief

Remove inefficient plant consisting of atmospheric LTHW boilers and indirect calorifiers, design and install a cost-effective renewable future proofed solution.

Project Description

3 outdoor units: These units are the heart of the air source heat pump system, efficiently extracting heat from the air outside.

3 indoor hydro boxes: Working in tandem with the outdoor units, these hydro boxes facilitate the transfer of heat indoors.

2 ideal indirect unvented cylinders: These cylinders are crucial for storing and providing hot water on demand throughout the hospital.

Further enhancing the system’s capabilities, our team installed:

2 low-temperature hydro boxes: Specifically designed to feed the underfloor heating circuits, ensuring a consistent and comfortable temperature distribution.

1 high-temperature hydro box: This unit is dedicated to feeding the primaries to the indirect unvented cylinders, crucial for maintaining optimal hot water supply.

Result

A re-calculated hot water demand based on occupancy behaviour rather than as originally intended, therefore minimise legionella risk and maximising efficiency of the new system.

Brief

 Rooftop plantroom replacement of 2x failing inefficient Atmospheric boilers with 2x Hoval Ultra gas condensing boilers and integrate with the chilled system.

Project Description

Working with the local authority we planned and programmed our works to enable the office to still be used as intended, the cranage and lifting equipment was executed working alongside other members of the project team, we de-designed the plantroom to ensure that we reduced the footprint enabling LTHW buffers to be installed by way of future proofing the clients ambition to link onto renewables as a phase 2, therefore the controls and methodology of operation was designed with all this in mind.

Throughout the project’s lifecycle, the team adhered to a well-structured process which facilitated a smooth execution and allowed for timely adjustments when necessary. The project was completed on time before the deadline, which is a testament to the team’s dedication on delivering our differentiation.

Result

While the project has been largely successful, it was not without its challenges especially as it was a rooftop plantroom in a busy town centre for a life office. These hurdles were overcome through collaboration with both the client and other service providers, enabling valuable learnings for future endeavours. The experience has enriched the team’s knowledge and will undoubtedly assist our business in taking on larger projects.

This project has delivered outstanding results that not only fulfilled but, in some areas, exceeded the expectations. The dedication of the project team, combined with effective management and a clear vision, has culminated in a project that can be looked upon as a model for future work.

Brief

The existing heating infrastructure, comprised of several Hoval atmospheric boilers, has reached the end of its operational lifespan, and requires an upgrade to meet modern efficiency and environmental standards. Clients brief was to replace the outdated boilers with state-of-the-art Hoval UltraGas boilers, complete with new pipework, insulation, and
flues, to enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint.

Project Description

Our team successfully executed a comprehensive upgrade of the heating system. The initiative began with the removal of three outdated Hamworthy Purewell boilers. These units, which had reached the end of their operational life, were meticulously stripped down into sections. To navigate the complexities of the plant room, we employed an electric stair walker, ensuring a safe and efficient extraction process.

Following the clearance of the old system, we embarked on the installation phase. Our choice of replacement was the Hamworthy Variheat boilers, known for their high efficiency and adaptability to various environmental conditions. Alongside the boilers, a Hamworthy header kit was installed. However, to meet the specific needs of the school, we modified the header kit to include a shunt pump for each boiler, enhancing the system’s functionality.

The project also necessitated the installation of a plate heat exchanger. This addition was critical in creating a segregated system, which serves to protect the new boilers by preventing any legacy issues from affecting the new setup. To complement the boilers and the heat exchanger, we installed two new pressurisation units and expansion vessels, alongside pump sets. These components are essential in maintaining a consistent system
pressure and facilitating effective heat distribution.

Result

This case study exemplifies our commitment to delivering tailored solutions that not only meet but exceed the expectations of our clients. The school now benefits from a modernized heating system that promises increased efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and a significant improvement in environmental impact. Replace a failed AHU with a futureproof solution.

Project Description

The shopping centre faced a significant challenge when its air handling unit (AHU) burner, a critical component of the HVAC system, ceased to function. This malfunction not only compromised the air quality and climate control within the facility but also posed potential safety risks. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the management promptly sought a reliable solution.

1066 PHD Ltd was contracted to address this issue due to their proven expertise in mechanical engineering and HVAC systems. Upon a thorough assessment, the team from 1066 PHD Ltd determined that the existing burner was beyond repair and a modern replacement was necessary for efficient and sustainable operation.

The company opted for a state-of-the-art modulating Comtherm burner, known for its exceptional performance and energy efficiency. This choice was in alignment with the shopping centre’s commitment to environmental responsibility and operational cost reduction. The installation process was meticulously planned and executed. The old burner was safely
dismantled and removed, ensuring that all protocols and safety measures were strictly followed to prevent any disruption to the shopping centre’s operations. The new Comtherm burner was then installed with precision and care.

Result

Following the installation, the 1066 PHD Ltd team conducted a comprehensive commissioning process. This included a series of rigorous tests to verify the burner’s functionality, adjust the controls for optimal performance, and ensure compliance with all relevant safety and building regulations.

The successful replacement of the AHU burner by 1066 PHD Ltd not only restored the shopping centre’s air quality and climate control but also enhanced the system’s overall efficiency. The management of the shopping centre expressed their satisfaction with the professionalism and technical proficiency demonstrated by 1066 PHD Ltd throughout the project.

Brief

 Our client asked for us to provide a robust hot water system capable of providing instantaneous hot water whilst mitigating legionella risk and minimising the storage of hot water.

Project Description

The installation completed at the London premiership club pictured included a manifolded bank of 10 Rinnai Sensei N series 1600i continuous flow water heaters together with the Nexus scale protection and a BMS Integration. All units featured Rinnai commissioning to secure long term warranty guarantees.

Each N-Series provides 13:1 turndown of modulation, therefore in total 130:4 turndown on a system that would only fire when either demand or temperature changes. Furthermore we were able to enable sufficient room for ASHP integration as phase 2 of the project.

Result

Our Commercial Director Ricky Lewis, was then Rinnai Associate Director of Corporate Sales, and concluded, “We were able to demonstrate that the Rinnai system can yield financial reductions of nearly 20% of the running cost, over 30% of the upfront cost, over 15% in carbon footprint, over 75% in space, over 85% in weight compared to heated storage systems, creating a highly practical and economic solution for the client whilst lowering onsite carbon.”

Brief

Our client reported a failed heat exchanger to the middle boiler in this student accommodation,
as an urgent call out

Project Description

Upon receiving the urgent call about the failed heat exchanger in the middle boiler of the student accommodation, we began by looking for common signs of a faulty heat exchanger, such as unusual noises from the boiler and instances of the boiler locking out. After confirming these symptoms, we proceeded to diagnose the problem, suspecting a build-up of heating sludge or limescale as the likely culprits.

Our team carried out a thorough inspection of the heat exchanger and found significant sludge accumulation, which we addressed with a hot-flush to clear the blockages. In areas with hard water, we also checked for limescale and used a descaling agent where necessary.

Understanding the complexity and safety concerns associated with gas boilers, we ensured that all inspection and repair work was conducted by a certified Gas Safe engineer. The engineer recommended regular maintenance to prevent future issues and assessed the condition of the heat exchanger to determine if a replacement was required.

By following these steps, we were able to swiftly and safely resolve the heating issue, restoring warmth and hot water to the student accommodation. We also advised the client on the importance of regular boiler maintenance to extend the life of the system’s components.

The client has a fully operational system which has had a clean bill of health.

Client’s request was to remove in-efficient Gas Fired Water Heaters and re-size the system for a new electric water heater capable of providing additional energy that meets the universities expanding needs

In response to the client’s request, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of the existing hot water system at the university. Our analysis identified the gas-fired water heaters as inefficient and inadequate for the institution’s growing requirements. To address this, we meticulously re-sized the system and installed a new electric water heater. This upgraded system is not only more energy-efficient but also capable of meeting the increased demand, ensuring that peak requirements are satisfied and there is a continuous supply of hot water for the university’s expanding needs.

The installation of the new electric water heater system has provided the university with a multitude of benefits. In response to the client’s concerns, our team conducted an in-depth evaluation of the existing heating setup. We recommended a transition to the Ideal Evomax 2 condensing boilers, known for their superior efficiency. These boilers are designed to capture and reuse heat that would typically escape into the atmosphere with traditional models. By installing two of these boilers in a cascade configuration, we ensured a flexible and powerful heating system. The integration of a low loss header further aids in preserving energy, while the flue header manages exhaust effectively. Completing the system with thermal insulation maximizes energy retention, solidifying the warehouse’s commitment to energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

The Centers boilers were failing and in-efficient, so requested to review the boilers, burners and system to maximise efficiency.

Project Description

The Portsmouth Shopping Center, a bustling hub for shoppers and retailers, recently underwent essential maintenance to ensure the efficient operation of its heating system. Our team focused on servicing the existing boilers and flue, addressing safety, performance, and longevity.

Our technicians meticulously inspected each boiler unit, checking for signs of wear and tear, the combustion chamber, heat exchanger, and nozzles received thorough cleaning removing soot and debris to maximise efficiency.

We then performed a visual Inspection of the flue system for any visible damage, blockages, or deterioration.

By fine-tuning the fuel-to-air ratio, we optimized combustion efficiency affording our client reduced fuel consumption.

Result

The serviced boilers now operate efficiently, providing consistent heating and hot water. Compliance with safety standards ensures a secure environment for shoppers and staff, whilst ensuring maintenance costs remain manageable, extending the lifespan of the system.
